Join The Common Room for the opening of an exhibition of photography by six young people from Weston, aged 16 - 25.
The work was developed in a programme of workshops as part of Polly Braden’s Against the Tide UK - a nationwide project, in collaboration with The Guardian documenting the experience of young people and the impact that growing up in a seaside town has on their life chances.
The photographs and accompanying poem - written in collaboration with Beth Calverley - visualises their experience of growing up in Weston and the way they view the town today - explored through dreams and nostalgia, the fragility of the natural environment, working class culture in South Ward, found poetry, as well as looking for - and finding - the simple beauty of the place.
